There are 105 lakes in Vermont with European Water Milfoil infestation. Only one lake has been successful in eradicating the EWM by non-herbicidal means. To date, the State allows an herbicide treatment only after all non-herbicidal efforts fail. By this time, the infestation is so widespread the dosage amount of the herbicide needs to be so large. We are asking the Joe's Pond Association members to consider supporting the EWM committee's effort to have the State reconsider their protocols and allow an herbicide to be applied when the infestation is manageable thus allowing the herbicide dosage to be much smaller.
