Dear Governor Scott,

I am writing on behalf of the Joes Pond Association to encourage you to support additional funding for the completion of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. Since the opening of the section in our area in 2015 we have noticed an incredible amount of usage of the trail. This has provided a recreation outlet for local residents and has begun to attract tourists from outside our immediate area including some out of state visitors. Should the trail be eventually completed across Vermont I would anticipate a substantial impact for area merchants and a secondary increase in tax revenues for the state. Bike, walking or hiking trips along the entire length could be developed and in fact already exist in some sections. Cross country skiing, snow shoeing and snowmobiling are active winter pursuits . I am personally familiar with walking tours in other countries and this 92 mile trail would provide an excellent opportunity for those interested in a week or longer active vacation in Vermont. Being a true four season destination, Vermont should not miss this opportunity to market its natural beauties.

We are of course cognizant of budgetary restraints and competition for limited tax dollars. However, since this project has been nearly 15 years in development it seems an appropriate time to push for completion. Your support would prove invaluable and again we ask you give this the utmost consideration. I am sure your recent vacation in our area has given you occasion to realize the significant potential of this project.
