Watercraft Operation Protocols
2026

  • Become familiar with the locations of the shallow water areas (littoral zones) of the lake where EWM grows (light blue areas on the map below)
  • Avoid watercraft operation in littoral zones as much as possible
  • Restrict passage through littoral zones only to access and egress to and from mooring areas
  • When passing to and from moorings, operate slowly and in the most direct route that minimizes distance traveled in the littoral zone
  • Watch for, be aware of, and avoid any established EWM within the route of passage being used to and from the mooring
  • Report any EWM observed to the Lakeshore Coordinator with responsibility for that particular area of the shoreline and adjacent littoral zone (see map below)
  • Stay away from JPA-placed orange marker buoys that locate documented EWM plants
  • Respect any warning signs alerting boaters to areas of the lake where a concentrated population of EWM has become established and advising watercraft to keep out of the area.  In 2026 this will be in the First Pond.
  • In 2026 yellow buoys will be used to delineate a navigation channel through the Second Pond due to the infestation
