Picklefest Fundraiser 2024
The 2024 Picklefest on August 11 & 12 was another success. Twenty-three people of all abilities played on Saturday. Partners were selected randomly, and the top 4 scorers played for the pickles. Joe Hebert & Chris Burns played against Jamie Semprebon & Monica Erickson. Joe & Chris won the match and the coveted pickles. A good time was held by all and there were plenty of spectators to watch the matches. Louis Cassani did a great job in getting the players onto the respective courts and keeping track of the scores. Pam Hebert was the timekeeper and used the foghorn brilliantly! Laela Roberts had cookies and lemonade for sale which were delicious and appreciated. Laela also was given a special chocolate treat for being the best sports person there.

On Sunday the tournament was by teams. There were 6 advanced teams and 4 intermediate teams. Father/son teams won both categories. In the intermediate category the father/son team of Alex & Teo Bravakis beat the team of Rob Stewart & Dana Denny. In the advanced category the father/son team of Scott & Evan Burns beat the team of Joe Hebert & Kris Erickson. Thanks go to Bob MacLeod for keeping track of the teams and scores and a huge thanks to Laela Roberts for her ability to be a human foghorn to start and stop the games.
The Commish, Tom Segale, organized this annual tournament and looks forward to 2025 for the next Picklefest. The 2024 Picklefest raised $1400 for the JPA tennis court fund. |
Picklefest Fundraiser 2023
It just keeps getting better and better! Tom Segale and crew organized 37 pickleball players on Saturday August 12 to have a fun tournament with all levels of skill and experience playing against each other. Everyone played 3 games which were timed to be 11 minutes. Each game had randomly chosen partners and the four players with the highest score played for the championship. The event raised a record of $2,265! Thank you, everyone.
In Saturday's final match, Paul McCann and his son James (Lee and Ginger Erdman’s son in law and grandson) played against Danielle Stevens and Teo Bravakis (Dave and Kim Kidney’s grandson). In an exciting game, Paul and James beat Danielle and Teo 11 points to 9 points. Each of the finalists were awarded a jar of homemade pickles made by Paige Crosby. Another jar of pickles was awarded to the Erdman family who supplied the most family members (8) to play in the tournament.

Sunday was another exciting tournament. It was a more competitive tournament with teams for an intermediate skill bracket and an advanced skill bracket. Andrea MacCloud and Norma Segale put up a good fight, but Peter and Paige Crosby took home the pickles for the intermediate game. In the advanced round, there were 10 teams participating and a tremendous finals match with Danielle Lewis and Jamie Semprebon earning the pickles trophy against the more mature and very consistent duo of Mike Segale and Joe Hebert. There's no doubt the biggest and rowdiest crowd was in attendance for this match.
